The Renovations Are Finished!

Hello dear friends, I am a little behind in posting but much has been happening.  The very final piece of work was to have the cleaners come through which they did on Saturday December 20th.  And then….nothingness!  For months we have had people coming and going on a daily basis so the lack of activity is taking some getting used to.

We moved some of the furniture from the storage unit.  Abby experienced immediate and profound happiness to have her love seat and sofa put back into operation.

Vera is just happy to have any comfortable furniture.

The final week was a whirlwind of activity with plumbing and lighting as well as the stair runner being installed.  Since everyone was working so hard (and the weather was crummy) we thought we should serve lunch.

The second floor main bath has turned out beautifully.  The custom shower unit is gorgeous and puts our main floor shower to shame.

The guest room is small but cozy.  The changes we had made to the room sizes have messed up some of our furniture plans.  As it happens we have lots of furniture so we are pondering options.

Two small bedrooms are now one big room with lots of light.

Last minute changes allowed us to make a bigger reading nook at the cathedral window.  The rest of the trim for this window is being milled at a wood shop in Toronto and will be installed later in January.  The hallway on either side of the staircase is also slightly wider.

We love the new fireplace.  We have changed our minds multiple times over the primary purpose of this room and which pieces of furniture should be placed here.  We are nearing a decision (I think!)

We have also changed our minds multiple times about the room that used to be the library.  It has lots of great light with two big windows and is a wonderfully cozy room.  I think we are almost decided on this room as well.

The passageway to the laundry room which also provides access to the old basement.  What a difference from the dark and dingy area with old wood paneling that was probably decades old.  The entire area is much brighter and a repurposed light fixture illuminates this area very nicely.

The laundry room is technically a separate project although framing, drywall, paint, electrical and plumbing were completed with the other work.  I can’t wait to have this room completed.
We had started work on this area a couple of years ago but as things go we didnt get it finished.  There will be so many exciting updates to this room that I will do a separate laundry room post once it is finished.

That is my update for the moment but there is more to come.  The silly piece of news is that I now have a broken leg which is slowing us down considerably.  More on that later!  Wishing everyone a safe, healthy and peaceful 2026.

Aw, Abby and Vera look so happy and content to have their sofa back. The renos look fabulous. Love the paint colors you chose. Your leg, well, not so fabulous. Heal up soon sister!
