Late Spring at the Farm

Hello dear friends, I hope everyone is safe and well.  We are still struggling with the Coronavirus here in Ontario but the news reports are suggesting that the number of new cases continues to decline.  That is a very positive news indeed!  In the meantime I am still working from home 4 days per week.

I have felt awfully busy since this whole mess started and havent had much time to document events at the farm.  So I thought I would share some quick photos from my phone to bring everyone up to date.

Yesterday one of our Muscovy ducks made the trek from the barn up to the house.  I am not sure why!  Abby wasnt sure what to make of him but left him alone.  He came, he looked around, and then he left.

I half expected it to head for the koi pond but thankfully it didn't.

The two horribles (Henry on top, Horatio below) and still getting along most of the time.  Henry is going to be a very big cat!  He has now owned for us almost 7 months and is still growing.  And eating.   He has long silky fur which traps burrs, twigs and various seed heads.  It is an adventure removing some of the mess from his fur.  Occasionally I need to cut entire matted sections out.  We have noticed that Horatio seems to be getting a little jealous so we are making sure that he gets lot of attention.

Let me in!

A view across the road one morning on my way to the office.  We absolutely love our views.  This year however the mosquitoes have been unbearable.  From early morning to late in the evening there are swarms of them.  Even spraying insect repellent hasn't helped.  It is annoying and frustrating as it makes working in the gardens impossible to do.

Part of ash alley.  This area is lovely in the early morning light.

I had some trouble with the sunlight in the background but this is a large stand of old lilacs at the end of Crab Apple Grove.  To the left is our road and just behind you can see one of our hay fields.  It will soon be time to start cutting our hay.

The side road on the way to the highway.  This particular stretch is lovely at any time of the year with the canopy of branches stretching across the road.

I do love allium.  It is a great naturalizer and purple is one of my favourite colours in the garden.

Wishing everyone a safe week and thank you for visiting!
